The hotel · Since 2021
A house that learned to keep guests.
DY HOTEL began as a stubborn old house on a headland nobody could quite leave alone. We've spent every year since 2021 making it gentler, never grander.
Four years,
one long tide.
The building had been a coastguard house, then a guesthouse, then empty for a long while. When we took it on in 2021 it had good bones, a leaking roof and the best view on the coast. We opened that same year with eight rooms and a kettle, and learned the rest as we went.
We grew slowly and on purpose. A dining room came in 2022, the spa was cut into the slope in 2023, and the boathouse opened to guests in 2024. Through all of it the ownership has never changed hands and the front door has never had a chain of command behind it — just the same small team, a few more rooms, and a coastline we've come to know by heart.
We are not a brand with a flagship. We are one hotel, in one place, run by the people who answer your email. That is the whole of our ambition, and we guard it carefully.
Milestones,
tide by tide.
Eight rooms and a kettle
We bought the old coastguard house, patched the roof, and opened with eight rooms before the first winter. The kitchen was a single induction ring and a very good baker.
The dining room finds its feet
We opened the sea-view dining room, hired our first head chef, and started cooking to the morning boat. The five-course board has changed almost daily ever since.
A spa cut into the slope
We dug a small wellness room and a wood-fired sauna into the hillside below the terrace, with a cold plunge fed straight from the headland spring.
Twenty-four, and no more
The restored boathouse opened as our one freestanding stay, bringing us to twenty-four rooms in total — the number we have decided to stop at.
Mostly returning guests
Five seasons in, more than half of our nights are booked by people who have stayed before. We take that as our brief for everything we do next.
Few rules,
kept well.
A small hotel can't hide behind a system, so we don't keep many. The ones we have, we hold to.
Owner-run, every season
No holding company, no absent investor. The people who opened DY HOTEL still run it, and still answer the phone.
The same hands
Most of our team have been here since the first year — at the stove, in the garden, on the path. Continuity is our luxury.
Lightly held
We source within sight where we can, heat with the spring and the wood we cut, and leave the headland the way we found it.
The rest is
better in person.
We're happy to talk through dates, rooms and the journey before you commit to anything. Most stays here start with a short note.
